Richard & Sally's story...Richard Nagel was born in Sydney. He then grew up in the Queensland outback on his family’s 70,000 acre sheep and cattle property, Charlotte Plains, near Cunnamulla where he worked for 10 years after finishing school.
Sally Holt was born in Canada. She then grew up in Oxfordshire, England. She worked at Collins Publishers in London before travelling the world.
Richard met Sally whilst she was travelling around Australia in 1986. They were married in Oxfordshire, England in 1987 and have two children, Benjamin (33) and Jessica (32).
The Nagel family moved to the Mudgee district 31 years ago and now own Old Bara, a picturesque 1100 acre cattle property between Mudgee and Lue.
As well as being a farmer, Richard is also a very skilled carpenter and sculptor, he produces unique garden sculptures made from recycling metal, mainly old machinery parts.
He started his furniture business in 1993.
His recycled metal sculptures are now becoming well recognised and have been bought by customers across 3 states, the sculpting is where Richard's passion lies. See more on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/RNagelSculptures
Sally was very involved in the equestrian world, she used to compete in One Day Events across the state. As a result of Sally’s near fatal horse riding accident in 1998, Sally and Richard became involved in fund raising for Careflight. They've held 3 black tie balls in Mudgee which raised over $110,000 to help keep the essential Careflight helicopters and trauma specialist doctors in the air.
